The Hamlet

San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes

It is the spring water, with its exceptional organoleptic properties, which flows from Sette Fontane and gives its name to the village of San Leonardo, a few kilometres from Santu Lussurgiu. It was built around the little church dedicated to San Leonardo di Noblac by the Order of Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (12th century) who also added the monastery and hospital and whose order took the name of the Knights of Malta in around 1500.

Over time, the rich natural woodland heritage of sessile oak (Quercus pubescens), chestnut (Castanea sativa) and holm oak (Quercus ilex) which accounted for the economic value of the village, was increased by orderly plantations, particularly around the Church, which led to the idea of planting the now centuries-old cedars, elms and maples and which has included the Park in the Regional Network of “Historic Gardens of Sardinia”.

From Santu Lussurgiu, a beautiful circular pathway, winding through Mediterranean scrub and woodland, links the built-up area to the hamlet.
